Corrosion
Detection
At a Glance
As the world’s only complete spill prevention system, the Earthsafe pipeline can detect pipe corrosion and integrity issues before a leak is exposed to the environment. Hydrocarbons can continue to flow uninterrupted in the carrier pipe, as repairs to the containment pipe are undertaken at the convenience of the pipeline operator.
How it Works
If there is corrosion to the outer containment pipe, water vapour will infiltrate the interstitial space between the containment and carrier pipe. Podium’s sensors (which can be placed in each of the pipe sections along the network), detect the water vapour and can relay its presence to the operator. The operator can subsequently conduct repairs to the outer pipe, knowing the integrity of the inner pipe is uncompromised.
Significant Operating Cost Reduction, as Well as Prevention of Disaster Clean Up
The Earthsafe pipeline can significantly reduce operating costs for the pipeline operator due to its effective and autonomous nature. Manual inspections crews no longer need to be constantly at the ready. Further, the need for maintenance crews to be engaged in physical pipe patrolling across large and remote geographic areas is also unnecessary.
Considering the Earthsafe pipeline can prevent oil spills from occurring in the first place, the expenses relating to environmental clean up are then subsequently avoided by the pipeline operator. In effect, this proactive, real time and 24/7 approach to monitoring pipe integrity is much safer and cost effective compared to traditional methods such as checks by flyover and digging inspections.
