In certain jurisdictions, sabotage and theft of oil are very real concerns that pipeline operators must navigate. The Earthsafe technology allows for selective detection of theft, ensuring that a pipeline operator always has complete control and knowledge of the entire pipeline network, wherein any unauthorised intrusion or theft can be instantaneously detected. 

For markets which endure theft and intrusion alerts on a regular basis, the system costs can be reduced by limiting the thickness of the outer pipe. This is to address the specific needs of detecting and preventing unauthorised intrusion and theft, allowing for quick responses and minimal repair costs. 

As with other features of the Earthsafe pipeline, the selective intrusion detection capabilities of the technology are both retrofittable to existing pipe networks, and can be implemented in new pipeline construction.
